It’s Day 5 of praying for our kids! If you are just joining us, we welcome you!

Today our prayer focus is: GRATITUDE

The Bible tells us to be grateful, not because gratitude is easy, but because it takes effort. Gratitude must be cultivated in order to flourish. God asks us to thank Him in prayer to help us learn how to be grateful and to make us aware of our abundant blessings.

As we pray today for our children to develop grateful hearts, let’s consider what happens when we are not grateful.

A lack of gratitude . . .
Causes envy, selfishness and frustration to multiply.
Gives us a negative perception of events and people.
Makes us forget all the blessings that we already have.
Causes incessant neediness.
Affects our emotional, spiritual and even our physical health.

As we pray for our children to have grateful hearts today, let’s practice being grateful ourselves.

1) List 10 wonderful things about your child and thank God in prayer for each one. This will flood your heart with gratitude for your children and for God! (Be prepared to smile)

2) Then list specific things you want your child to be grateful for, such as:

Material blessings.
Loving parents.
The opportunity to learn.
Helpful, caring teachers.
God’s love and forgiveness.

Here are some verses to encourage you as you pray:

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything; tell God your needs, and don’t forget to thank him for his answers. If you do this, you will experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will keep your thoughts and your hearts quiet and at rest as you trust in Christ Jesus.” Phil. 4:6-7 TLB

“No matter what happens, always be thankful, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” 1 Thess. 5:18 TLB

“You are my God, and I give you thanks; I will proclaim your greatness. Give thanks to the Lord, because he is good, and his love is eternal.” Ps.118: 28-29 GNT

Dear Lord,

Our lives overflow with blessing! Thank you for all that you have done, are doing and will do for us. Help our children see the blessings you send today and help them to be truly thankful. Amen.

I’m thankful for each of you. Have a wonderful day!
